They were the most popular music directors of their time and ruled sway over Hindi Film Music at a time when Melody was Queen. They are credited with several innovative approaches to film music including giving the score for Hindi Film's first ever dream sequence song with two distinct music patterns - a high octave, high energy pathos laden first part suddenly cocooning into a soft, hopeful, bright, melodious end. The song, Ghar Aaya Mera Pardesi from Aawara was a big hit and their orchestration was the biggest inflexion point in the history of Hindi Film Music.
Their compositions like Mera Jootha Hai Japani (Shri 420) are big hits even today and the songs have a cult following not just in the Indian Sub-continent but in Russia, Middle East, Eastern Europe etc. Sankar Jaikrisan worked with almost all the singer in their time. Among them Lata Mangeshkar sung over all 402 songs for them.Eventually Mohd. Rafi was their most favourite male playback singer.Rafi sung 369 songs for them.
Another legendry singer Mukesh gave his voice 212 times for their music. In early 60s they had bad blood with Lata Mangeshkar because of this Sankar jaikrisan introduced a Lata clone,Sarda but unfortunately Sarda did not click in the industry.
