On October 6, 2004 SIRIUS announced that it signed a five-year, $500-million agreement with shock jock Howard Stern to move his radio show to Sirius starting on January 9, 2006. Music streams on Sirius contain almost every type of music genre imaginable, broadcasting 24 hours a day, commercial free. XM Radio provides excellent coast-to-coast signal coverage to the densely populated regions of Canada through its satellites and a robust ground repeater network installed in major metropolitan areas.
XM Satellite Radio is designed for marine use. in addition to domestic waterways in the continential United States, XM's signal extends off the coast into all U.S. coastal waters. XM has signed deals with 60 per cent of car makers, including the biggest, General Motors of Canada Ltd., to pre-install XM receivers in GM vehicles. XM Radio provides pay-for-service radio, analogous to premium cable television.

The battle to bring a domestic satellite radio service to Canada is heating up on the political front. In the US market, there's two players: XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio. Both Sirius Radio and XM Radio are counting on Canadians' propensity for adopting new digital technologies at ever-accelerating rates. So FAR, WorldSpace has been the leader in the satellite radio industry, but the USA is not currently part of WorldSpace's coverage area.
