Traditional telephone networks are SEEING the advantages in offering VoIP services as well. VoIP can be used with a dial up connection, however it is not recommended if you are looking to compare the service with your normal telephone connection. You really need a broadband connection to utilize VOIP properly. VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is a technology that allows you to connect your normal phone to a full telephone service via your broadband connection.

VoIP services are continually being improved and extended. some companies sell telephones which can be connected to your computer for use with VOIP. With many VoIP plans you can talk for as long as you want with any person in the world .

There are many companies LIKE Vonage, Lingo, and VoiceWing (Verizon) that offer VoIP lines. An ever growing number of Internet connections around the world that let VoIP which turns Internet infrastructure to a giant global telephone network. VoIP, as a technology, is still in it's infancy and new developments are being found every day.

Most of the VoIP carriers offer E911 service, but not all. If you're on the internet with a fast enough connection, you can speak to another party without incurring any call charges whatsoever, as long as the other party is using a VOIP device compatible with yours. You may be able to use your VoIP service wherever you travel as long as you have a high speed Internet connection available.

If you have a BROADBAND internet connection, you may need not maintain and pay the additional cost for a line just to make telephone calls, and may be able to take advantage of VOIP internet telephony services. You can access your VoIP account and make calls from it anywhere that has a computer and an internet connection. Currently very few of the VOIP service providers offer emergency services, such as 911, or information services, such as 411. If you have a reasonable quality Internet connection you can get your phone service delivered to you through your Internet connection instead of from your local phone company.
