Wider adoption OF VoIP has been largely down to advances in IP networking technology, and processor speed increases. Some VoIP providers permit you to call anywhere at a flat rate for a fixed number of minutes. VoIP can be used to offer end users lower-cost, innovative services with capabilities previously unavailable in voice communications.

While some services only work over your computer or a special VoIP phone, other services allow you to use a traditional phone through an adaptor. Voice over Internet Telephony is technology that means you can hold telephone calls over the Internet or an IP network. VoIP clients come in both hardware and software platforms, the software devices using your PC to do the work and usually used with an audio headset.

Faxes, modem, AND alarm systems don't work well over VoIP lines. Voice over Internet Telephony isn't widely used in office networks. If the electricity is out for any reason, and you only have a VOIP telephone system, then you will not have a phone system, unless you keep your landline for emergency purposes.

Voice over IP is the emerging technology and is more prevalent in modern businesses.
